I really wanted to get fit again after the birth of my second baby. I’d experimented for years with different diets in the hope of losing weight, and I tried a range of different professionals to help with persistent knee pain that was really interfering with any attempt to workout. The last physio told me I should be happy to just walk every day, that it must just be wear and tear, and there was no significant issue to be dealt with.
I decided that I was willing to do whatever it takes. I had nothing obvious for anyone to treat, so it seemed like I was making a big deal about nothing. It was real to me. So I went searching for a personal trainer that would understand how to overcome injuries and how I wanted to move.
Instead of going the route suggested to me of gentle workouts, I went the other way – boxing and kicking, weights, and high intensity stuff. I was lucky to find someone who came up with another idea whenever I struggled with the exercises he set. Eventually, I didn’t need all the workarounds. I’ve been in the gym since I was 16 years old, but I felt like I finally understood. It awoke a real passion in me. That’s why it’s Blissfit. Suddenly I enjoyed it in a way I had never done before. My body felt good. Like it belonged to me. It was strong, capable, and it no longer felt like hard work. I still rate the way you feel after a boxing session as a better state of relaxation than I’ve ever had in a spa.
I worked even harder to understand food. I showed up to workout. Eventually, my weight and shaped changed. It did not happen overnight. It did not happen in a month. It’s what I managed to do everyday that eventually made the changes I’d hoped for. The real driver of success is consistently doing the work over time. Knowing that there may be bumps, but that they’re just bumps, not dead ends. What really matters to me, is how everything has changed for the better because of the effort I was willing to put into this one thing. I am grateful that I’m not in an endless struggle wishing for foods that I can’t eat, that I understand much more about what my body needs. And not a pill or diet fad in sight. Fitness adds bliss to your whole life.
I have been privileged to have now enjoyed years of training supported by really great coaches. I’ve been progressing in Tae kwon do (I got student of the year in 2018), and I love boxing. For years I did not understand the value that a fitness coach or personal trainer could add to what I wanted to do. It felt like something I should be able to do myself. Looking back, what I got out of it is way beyond what I invested. I’m 42 now. My desire to better understand the scientific basis for programming, movement and strength development led me to qualify as a personal trainer myself. I love what I’ve learnt, experienced, and I love that I can keep learning. Helping my clients find their own personal Blissfit is a pleasure and a privilege that I love.
I would love to be the coach that helps you to find your way.
